Note from 2022: Did half batch, took about 13 mins in oven with 3 trays
Note from 2023: Half batch, 12 mins in oven for 2 cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Three cups powdered sugar is enough glaze for half batch. Try adding a little more vanilla or maybe even almond to glaze next time.

- Cookies
2 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup sour cream
1 cup shortening
1 tsp baking soda
1 tbsp baking powder
2 tbsp milk
2 1/2 tbsps vanilla
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp salt
7+ cups flour
- Glaze
5-6 cups powdered sugar
12 tbsp milk
1 tbsp vanilla
Directions
- Cookies
- Preheat oven to 350°. Combine all ingredients except flour. Once mixed thoroughly, begin adding flour a few cups at a time. Add until mixture doesn’t stick to fingers and can be rolled out.
- Roll dough out on flour-covered surface, keeping height just under 1/4”. Cut to desired shapes and place on cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Bake about 11-14 minutes (until cookies are just barely golden).
- Glaze
- Combine all ingredients. Tint with food coloring. Spread on cookies and add any sprinkles (or other decorations) immediately – glaze will harden in minutes.
