Note from 2022: Did half batch, took about 13 mins in oven with 3 trays
Note from 2023: Half batch, 12 mins in oven for 2 cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Three cups powdered sugar is enough glaze for half batch. Try adding a little more vanilla or maybe even almond to glaze next time.

Ingredients

  • Cookies
  • 2 eggs

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 1 cup sour cream

  • 1 cup shortening

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • 2 tbsp milk

  • 2 1/2 tbsps vanilla

  • 1 tsp nutmeg

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 7+ cups flour

  • Glaze
  • 5-6 cups powdered sugar

  • 12 tbsp milk

  • 1 tbsp vanilla

Directions

  • Cookies
  • Preheat oven to 350°. Combine all ingredients except flour. Once mixed thoroughly, begin adding flour a few cups at a time. Add until mixture doesn’t stick to fingers and can be rolled out.
  • Roll dough out on flour-covered surface, keeping height just under 1/4”. Cut to desired shapes and place on cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Bake about 11-14 minutes (until cookies are just barely golden).
  • Glaze
  • Combine all ingredients. Tint with food coloring. Spread on cookies and add any sprinkles (or other decorations) immediately – glaze will harden in minutes.
