As the title states, this is my mom’s recipe for spaghetti sauce and meatballs. I’ve never actually made it myself yet because 4 hours seems like eons when it comes to cooking, but the experience is worth it if you can endure the process.
Mom’s Spaghetti Sauce & Meatballs

- Sauce
56 oz tomato sauce
29 oz chunked tomato
6 oz tomato puree
1 green bell pepper, diced
1/2 sweet onion, diced
2 Bay leaves
Oregano, to taste
Basil, to taste
Parsley, to taste
Rosemary, to taste
- Meatballs
1 1/2 lbs lean hamburger
1 green bell pepper, finely diced
1/2 sweet onion, finely diced
2 eggs
1 cup Italian bread crumbs
2 oz Ricotta cheese
Directions
- Combine all sauce ingredients in a large sauce pan. For the spices, add enough to cover the surface area of the pan. Bring to a boil then simmer for 2 hours.
- While the sauce cooks, mix the remaining ingredients for the meatballs and form into 1 inch balls.
- After the sauce has simmered for 2 hours, add the meatballs and let simmer for an additional 2 hours (4 total hours).
